I answered “Car” but realized that one of my most fun car experiences was a Volkswagen Rabbit Diesel I bought from a guy in a high school parking lot for $400.
Even if I get name-brand stuff I will usually find a way to get it cheaper. It’s rare that I will pay full price for anything. Except probably food. But that’s a boring answer.

Good for you kittykat!!! And to have such low miles is a rarity these days. I drive a 07 Subaru Outback and it’s around 104,00,00 miles. Although I’m the 3rd or 4th driver of the car, that’s still pretty good.
@narfcake@Star2236
Back in the day when I worked in an office I would often take public transportation or ride my bike to work (or campus when I was in grad school). Now I’m fully remote for over 3 years.
@kittykat9180@narfcake@Star2236 I bought a new car in Dec 2019 (2020 model). Paid cash.
I commuted to work (~75 mile round trip) until March 2020, then covid hit and I started working from home. Then I retired. Six years old, the car has less than 20K miles on it.
I probably should just sell it, but I like it.
While my logical answer should be catshirts – no, that’s a place where I absolutely do cheap out on since catshirtswoot has sales on a regular enough basis.
All you guys say you’ll never cheap out on food? You don’t ever buy store brand canned sauces, vegetables, cheese, pasta, spices, condiments, dairy, eggs, frozen, bread, ect…
I know I’m not the only one to shop the store brand to save money. I don’t wanna hear that people don’t cheap out on food bc I don’t know one person that that buys name brand everything when they go to the grocery store.
@Star2236 I always shop for deals on food! I only splurge on the things that are never on sale/needed right now. I do buy stuff for the “regular” price at Costco or Trader Joe’s, but they’re usually a decent price already.
@Kyeh@Star2236
Yep, I’m right there with you.
There are always at least one or two items in my fridge that have a discount sticker from Aldi or Walmart on them. I will frequently make a run through the store if I’m in town just to check and see what they have marked down that I might use and put it in the freezer.
The only “name brand” stuff in my fridge or pantry has an accompanying discount sticker on it!
@chienfou@Star2236 Yum! Yeah, sometimes it inspires me to cook things I wouldn’t have otherwise. Like this past week King Soops had a deal on “beef shaved steak” so I got rolls and made Philly style steak sammiches, which I’ve never made before. I tend to be impulsive with food.
Our dogs.
My health
My Rx medicines. (Especially since there is usually no option to do such.)

@pmarin Ha! We had one of those growing up in the early 80s. It got ~50 MPG!
Food and family.
edit - also pew pews.
I mean obviously you don’t cheap out on something that could impact your/someone’s health.
But what I consider decent cat food that costs x amount a month so I can fund my HSA or a kids college fund
Or just food cause they cut off your food stamps
Soda. I never get the store brand.
Major home appliances. I don’t want my water heater to leak every 4 years…
All of the above. Fortunately, I can afford it.
Ladies of the night…
Virtually nothing.
In my seven decades I have found that there is always a cheaper alternative for the things that I buy…
My parachute, both physical and financial.
@hchavers
cool… how many jumps have you done?
Food, shoes, mattress, and bra. Quality in those things can make or break your health… literally.

Chocolate
@macromeh this is the only answer
@macromeh @rancho
Aldi carries a pretty decent Dubai chocolate bar …
Toilet paper
I’ve had the same car since August 2008. Is that cheap?
@kittykat9180 After watching a few of these videos, I’m good with keeping my 2008 too.
Crossed 260k miles a couple weeks ago too:

@narfcake
I think mine is at around 105k miles.
And I’m good not having a monthly car payment. I haven’t had one in about 15 years.

I love my car. I hope to give it to my nephew in a few years. After he gets his shit together.
